Bill Wilson Memorial Scholarship
The Altoona Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers is pleased to announce its 39th Annual Civil Engineering Scholarship Award.
Up to $3000 will be paid to the school(s) directly in the name(s) of the recipient(s) for the Fall 2026 semester.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Applicants must either be a resident of or attend school in one of the six counties comprising our section (Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon, and Somerset Counties, PA). Applicants who do not meet residency or geographical educational requirements may demonstrate another stakeholder interest in the six counties compromising our section, as part of the Activities, Awards, Employment or Career Goals sections of the application for consideration by the scholarship
- Applicants must be college student (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior attending Grad School), or have obtained an associate degree and is continuing their education in a highway related field of
- Applicants must be in a civil engineering or STEM curriculum with a major emphasis in one of the following fields: Surveying, Geotechnical, Environmental, Structural, Inspection, Highway Design or Materials of Construction or another highway related field of engineering. Applicants who do not meet educational major requirements may demonstrate another stakeholder interest in the highway related field as part of the Activities, Awards, Employment or Career Goals sections of the application for consideration by the scholarship
- Applicants are only eligible to receive the scholarship one
The application forms and scholarship criteria information are available on the ASHE website at http://altoona.ashe.pro/scholarship/. The application must be completed and returned directly to the Scholarship Committee no later than March 31, 2026. To complete the application process, applicants may be contacted to complete a 30-minute phone interview with the ASHE Altoona Scholarship Committee.
Scholarship winner(s) will be notified in advance of our Awards Night Banquet typically held in May. An invitation will be extended for the winner(s) to attend the banquet to be recognized for their achievement.

Distinguished Service Award
Nominations are being accepted for the Annual Distinguished Service Award. Consider nominating a deserving individual that has made a contribution to the highway industry in any of the following ways:
• Contribution in any highway related field, including the following: government, construction, design, materials, utilities, etc.
• Using innovative design or construction techniques.
• Use of innovative highway or bridge materials.
• Contribution to community service.
• Dedication to transportation industry (years of service).
• Acknowledged eminence in the transportation field.
• Responsible for major transportation improvement(s).
• Original work, development, or activity.
• Valuable contributions in improved practice and applications benefiting the profession, the community, and the transportation industry.
• Contributions to increase knowledge and/or advancement of the profession (papers, other written research or practice).
• Activity in local and national ASHE affairs.
• Resourcefulness in planning, funding or implementation of projects.
